Welcome New Board Member Annette Mennem
We are Anishinaabe, the original people, and we are here to stay. Value us and our contributions to the world we live in today.
Annette Mennem
Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians
We are excited to announce the addition to our board of Annette Mennem. In her day job, Annette is director of the Native American Center at Minot State University. An enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain band, you could say that she has been involved in Indigenous education since the age of five. Annette attended school on the Turtle Mountain reservation, graduating from the tribal college, then transferring to MSU where she received her Bachelor’s degree in education and her M.S. in management.
Ms. Mennem is a commissioner on Minot’s Planning Commission and a member of the Prairie Public Broadcasting Community Action Board.
Annette Mennem has been a mentor to hundreds of Native American students, literally “auntie” to many and adopted auntie to many more. Her passion in life is increasing the success of Indigenous students in higher education, from their preparation before they arrive at post-secondary institutions, to their college graduation and beyond. She also is the mastermind, with a team of community volunteers, behind the highly acclaimed Minot State University powwow.
