Youth Community Journalism Solutions Festival With the Little Earth Community in Minneapolis
Minneapolis is a great city. Like any city, there are issues. When communities work together, we can create solutions.
Creating solutions with journalism is the goal of the Youth Community Journalism Solutions Festival. The festival will on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Cedar Field Park with the Little Earth Indigenous community in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis.
Led by the Youth Community Journalism Institute at the Strong Mind Strong Body Foundation, in collaboration with Jóvenes de Salud and Conversaciones de Salud at Carmen Robles and Associates, the Little Earth community, Indian Health Board, SPEAK MPLS, and the Star Tribune, the youth community journalism solutions festival will bring together the Little Earth community with community experts to educate the public on public health, healing tools, drug prevention, housing, homelessness, how to start a business, small business development, economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, immigration, and asset-based community development.
The focus will be on community solutions, community engagement, and community actions. We want community members to learn more about the local issues affecting their community and how they can use the assets (strengths) of the community to take action and create solutions.
There also will be a youth community news kiosk with youth community journalists and professional journalists sharing and receiving community news and information.
The event will have a restorative and back-to-school theme with the fun festival components of food, music, and arts. Music will be provided by Re’Unique Live and The Band. Food will be provided by Doña Clara Cabrera and Pizza Lucé Seward.
This summer festival is free, accessible to all, and designed to build local connections, boost the local economy, and empower the community.
